Advance Space – Peoria, Illinois - Atlas Obscura

When guests first approach this building they will notice a swingset on the roof, a stuffed panda on a bike, and a tractor tire in a bathtub.

Quirky objects and antiques fill the vintage storefront of Advance Space, an art studio/performance venue that takes its name from when it was a shades and blinds company in the 1960s.

This historical building now belongs to artist Colt Sandberg. For special events, Sandberg flies inflatable tentacles out the windows of this crazy building. Signage and art objects creatively curated from a lifetime of travels adorn every surface inside and out.

Behind the building, windows and a hammock make a giant smiley face. An old “Happy’s Bar and Lounge” sign sits atop a shipping container. If visitors are lucky enough to get a look inside, they will find a table saw—an actual table littered with saws. Around every corner of this artscape, guests are sure to find something unique.
