About
The Björketorp Runestone, from the 7th century, rises 4.2 meters high (about 14 feet). It is one of the tallest runestones in the world. And its surface carries one of the deadliest curses of the Viking Age: a promise of endless ruin and sudden death to anyone who dares disturb it.
Local legends whisper of farmers whose fields burned, and men who fell ill or died after trying to defy the stone. A 1400-year-old curse, still standing in the forest:
I, master of the runes, conceal here runes of power.Incessantly plagued by maleficence, doomed to insidious death is he who breaks this monument.I prophesy ruin.
