About
Between serving in the Marine Corps during the Second World War and working as an accomplished and nationally demanded tobacco auctioneer, Robert F. Cage of Virginia's Halifax County led an adventurous life. But to many, Cage was perhaps best known as an imaginative and prolific sculptor.
Cage's lucrative earnings as an auctioneer afforded him the leisure time to dedicate himself to this craft up until his passing in 2014. A resourceful artist, Cage sculpted many abstract creations using abandoned farm equipment and material otherwise left to rust.
Many of his art pieces went into private and corporate collections internationally, but a sizable chunk of them remain at the sculpture garden he curated outside his property on Cage Trail. Although several have been auctioned off per Cage's wishes, the farmstead's current owners intend on leaving a great deal of them by the roadside so that they may continue to be admired by passersby.
Know Before You Go
The sculptures are fenced off and located on private property, but you can admire them from a respectful distance.
