About
On a lonely hill in the middle of the north Puglian countryside, near the Italian towns of Torremaggiore and Castelnuovo della Daunia, lie the ruins of Castel Fiorentino.
Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250) is said to have died at this castle. The remains of a tower, among other parts of the structure, can be still be seen today.
From the 11th to the 13th century, it was an important landmark, strategically situated to control the surrounding area. While the castle lies in ruins, there is still a fantastic view from the hill where it stands.
