About
Nestled inside a former dance hall, the Creativity Explored studio has been a hub for hundreds of neurodiverse artists since 1983. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a formal gallery space showcasing artists from the studio program. From there, the studio emerges: over 130 artists with cognitive disabilities work there Monday through Saturday, embroidering, painting, creating ceramics, and more. Their work is displayed around the studio for visitors to enjoy, as well as in active portfolios on the lower level, organized by artist.
Almost all of the pieces in the studio are available for sale, with prices written directly on the back of each artwork. The subject matter is infinite and the creative energy contagious—even the building itself feels like an ever-evolving art piece, growing with each generation and offering a glimpse into its past.
Creativity Explored is open to the public Thursday through Saturday, with a special drop-in program on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. where visitors can make artwork alongside the studio artists. Be sure to keep an eye out for the resident bird, Paco.
