About
Einstein is the world's most famous scientist, best known for his theory of relativity. While his later life was spent in the US at Caltech, Einstein spent much time in Europe before that, including in Switzerland at the ETH where his now famous locker can be found.
Locker nr. 40 was Einstein's locker during his student times from 1896 to 1900, and has been somewhat famous since then as a so-called academic relic (not unlike his sink in Leiden, his blackboard in Oxford, a piece of his chalk in Nottingham, and so on.)
In the late 2000s the locker was transformed into a tiny museum complete with photos, items from his time, and a recording of a violin piece playing. Here you can read about Einstein's life, as well as his connection to Zurich and the university.
Know Before You Go
The attraction is freely accessible during opening hours of the university. You can find it on the first floor in the F-wing. It often has a little queue.
