About
The boat was wrecked in 2017 during a foggy night off the coast of Estero Bluffs State Park. While caught in a crab pot line, the captain cut the engine to try to free the vessel, but the dense fog obscured his view of the shoreline. In the process of freeing the boat, it drifted too close to shore and ran aground. The captain attempted to pull away using the anchor, but the vessel was stuck fast in the sand and ultimately abandoned.
Because the cost of removal is too high, the State Park Service has left the boat where it rests, slowly becoming part of the rugged coastal landscape.

The parking lot is a small dirt pullout off North Ocean Blvd. in Cayucos, California. It’s a steep hike down to the beach, and while the climb back up can be challenging, it’s manageable with care. The wreck is visible from the bluffs above. Be careful attempting down to the beach and back up. Ground is potentially unstable in some areas.
