About
If you’ve ever taken the metro to or from Madrid airport, you’ve probably noticed the huge mural that adorns the platforms of the station closest to the airport, formerly called Campo de las Naciones and now Feria de Madrid.
The Feria de Madrid station was renamed in 2017 to emphasize its importance during the IFEMA (which is the acronym for Institución Ferial de Madrid) events. The metro offers a convenient way to reach this strategic location, with ridership increasing from 3,898 on a normal day to 21,083 during major fairs such as FITUR (Madrid International Tourism Fair).
The decoration of the station honors its former name with the ceramic mural “Rostros de las Naciones en una sola bandera” (Faces of the Nations in a Single Flag) by Ralphe Sardá and Carlos Alonso, which features flags, symbols and anonymous faces from different cultures as well as universal quotes.
The station was opened on June 24, 1998, as part of Line 8 and served as the line's terminus until June 14, 1999. Line 8 has a length of 16.5 kilometers with eight stations and is the fastest in the Madrid metro network.
