Fort Stanwix National Monument

Central New York is a place known for its mountains, forests, maple syrup, and wine culture. But it's also a place that played a crucial role in American history. 

Fort Stanwix was a British fort built during the French and Indian War in 1758. It was abandoned in 1768 until the American Revolution when general George Washington ordered that Fort Stanwix be rebuilt to protect the new nation's northwest border, under the new name Fort Schuyler.

In the latter half of the 20th-century, a historically accurate reconstruction of the fort was completed. Fort Stanwix now serves as an insight into American history in the 18th-century. Historic reenactors and national park guides will be happy to tell you more about the fort and its history.
