About

The fuel tank mural at Palmer Station is one of the most recognizable landmarks at this remote Antarctic research base. Painted on the station’s large fuel tank, the mural features a leaping orca and adds a unique piece of public art to the otherwise industrial scenery. Visible from the water as ships approach the station, it has become a familiar symbol of Palmer Station for residents and visitors alike.

The mural stands out against the surrounding Antarctic landscape and serves as a reminder that even in one of the world’s most isolated workplaces, people bring creativity and personality to their surroundings.
