About

The Giant Wool Wagon is a large sculpture found in the town of Kojonup, southeast of Perth, Western Australia. It was constructed in 2001 by local service clubs to pay tribute to the significance that the wool industry had in the development of the area.

In the 1840s, early European settlers brought flocks of sheep to graze on the fertile lands around Kojonup. In 1969, there were over one million sheep within the shire of Kojonup and this fact is celebrated by the metal sheep sculpture also found at the site.

The sculpture is a one-and-a-half-scale model of an old wool wagon that was used to transport large quantities of wool from markets and depots in Perth. Horses were harnessed to the front of the wagons and the loading required great strength and labor from the local farmers.
