About
This wavy artwork was created by the artist duo Erik Rören and Signe Johannesen, who won a competition organized by the city of Göteborg. They worked with 300 school children from the area who got to practice democracy while designing this piece of art. The artists, the kids and the musician Magnus Holmén also wrote a song to accompany the Wave called “A plea for freedom of speech.”
The sculpture is placed on Pehr Eriksson Square, named after a social democrat journalist who was imprisoned in 1888 for insulting the king. The Wave is created as a speaker's corner in Eriksson's memory, where anyone can stand and speak their mind.
Today it's a popular playground for kids, but why not swing by and use your freedom of speech by sharing your thoughts with passers-by? Maybe insult the monarchy while you're at it?
