About
The sleepy and otherwise unremarkable settlement of Iino in Fukushima City, Japan, is noted for its disproportionate number of UFO sightings. Since the 1970s, residents and visitors have claimed to have seen flying saucers often hovering over the area, and in recent years believers have even founded a laboratory here to investigate further. Aliens are supposedly drawn to "UFO Village" by the mountain Senganmori, whose rocks have unique magnetic properties.
At the base of Senganmori lies a museum dedicated to Iino and Japan's UFO sightings, in operation since 1992. Its collection of 3,000 UFO-related artifacts includes not only alleged photos of them but also newspaper articles and models of what they supposedly look like. There is also a library full of UFO-related books and magazines. Locals hope that the museum will help revive the town as many others face population decline and a stagnant economy.
