Inverkeithing Parish Church, of patron Saint Peter, is an impressive Gothic Church that dates back to 1244. Inside contains items of historic importance - a font given by the Queen of Scotland in the 14th Century, and beautiful stained glass.

Christianity was first brought to Inverkeithing around 700 by Erat, a follower of St. Ninian. Ninian had originally brought Christianity to the Scottish mainland after Viking rule. The church door commemorates this with a plaque that reads, “On this hillside St. Erat first preached the Gospel.”

The church grounds feature a peaceful graveyard and a war memorial gardens for those of the town who died during the First and Second World Wars.

Know Before You Go

The interior of the church is only accessible on Sundays, between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Note that during this time church services will be taking place. The exterior, including the burial grounds, is free and accessible at all times.
