About

Karpur Baoli is a 1,200-year-old water tank nested in a forest at the feet of the hillocks behind. Its name comprises two words: karpur, meaning camphor, and baoli, meaning water tank. It was named so because of the water's camphor-like scent and supposed medicinal properties.

The structure, today, stands dilapidated with corridors on three sides leading to the garbagriha where an idol of worship once stood. Karpur Baoli is dedicated to six goddesses: Chamunda, Bhairavi, Ingalaj, Kali, Ranchandi, and Kapurta. The place is rather little known and is a little hidden gem close to the city of Nagpur.
