About
Opened on March 1st, 2018, this is Iceland’s first and only cat cafe. Home to multiple cats, customers can come in, sit, eat, drink, and relax with these friendly felines.
Iceland is home to many local street cats that hang out in shops and stores, but don’t worry, most have homes and are let out to socialize during the day.
All the cats at the cafe are up for adoption. It is not known when cats arrived, but it was likely around 872 AD. DNA research shows that all cats from Viking settlements share DNA, meaning that unless the cat you are meeting at the cafe is mixed with a purebred, it is likely a Viking cat.
The cafe is open daily and all cat lovers are welcome. The cat is the most popular pet in Reykjavik because dogs were banned in the city in the 1980s.
