About
Established in the 1940s by British naturalist Charles H. Lankester who was passionate about orchids and tropical plants, the garden is managed by the University of Costa Rica since 1973. Aside from orchids there are many other plant species that reside in the garden such as bromeliads, palms, bamboos, and heliconias.
Lankester Botanical Garden has a Japanese garden as a tribute to the influence of Japanese culture on horticulture and landscape design. It features classic elements like a koi pond, wooden bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully arranged plants, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
