About

Plopped amid the English Channel on the Isle of Wight is an unconventional museum where visitors can see and hold poo of all shapes and sizes: poo from humans and other animals, poo from the 21st century, and poo from millions of years ago.

This is the place where you can find answers to all your pressing excrement questions. How does lion’s poo compare to cat's poo? Is it similar to cow dung? The museum encourages you to look at Number 2 in a different way and from many different angles.

On display are samples of feces from humans (babies and adults) and various animal species. There is poo with teeth and bones in it; poo that looks like a cereal bar. And there is what is considered to be some of the oldest excrement in the world: fossilized droppings dating back 140 million years. Many of the items were donated by zoos or natural history museums around the world.

This incredible collection of multicultural and historical excrement was created by the artist collective Eccleston George, which stresses that poo is a ubiquitous and essential part of life, and we shouldn't ignore it or be ignorant to it based on societal taboos. And don’t worry: In this museum, the poo doesn’t smell.
