The Pann's Bank mural is a piece of artwork commissioned by the Sunderland City Council and painted by Frank Styles to pay tribute to the shipbuilding history of the city.
Although the shipyards are long gone, at the height of shipbuilding in Sunderland, the River Wear had over 400 shipyards. Sunderland was one of the largest shipbuilding cities in the world.
During World War II over a quarter of all merchant ships produced in the United Kingdom were made on the river, with many pioneering ship-building techniques developed in Sunderland.
The mural depicts a tall ship on the River Wear with a shipyard visible on the right-hand side.

Know Before You Go
The mural is below the Echo 24 building on the wall of the parking area below the bridge.
You can clearly see it from the left-hand side of the Wearmouth Bridge when heading South and you can take the left turn directly after the bridge and follow the pathway directly down to the mural and the car park.
