Statue of Frankenstein's Monster

Mary Shelly's Frankenstein is one of the best-known books in the world, not only because of its captivating plot, but also because it's one of the first ever sci-fi novels.

While the writer was English, the story was written and takes place in Geneva, Switzerland. A statue of the monster was placed in the spot where it—spoiler alert—goes on a rampage and kills his creator's brother. 

The statue stands in the northeast corner of Plaine de Plainpalais, right next to the skate park. It was unveiled in 2014 by the Contemporary Art Fund of the City of Geneva (KALT). Its terrifying visage is not quite in line with Shelly's original description of the monster, but more in line with the modern interpretation of a scary, zombie-like creature.
