A commercial development off of I-459 in Alabama might seem like an unexpected place to run into Lady Liberty. Yet, there she stands, on a 60-foot-tall granite pedestal overlooking Liberty Park. This faux-Statue of Liberty was erected atop the Liberty National Life Insurance building in 1958, then moved to its current location on July 4, 1989.
At 36-feet-tall, the bronze is one of the largest replicas of the famed French statue in New York Harbor. And while its torch may not be quite as large, it does burn bright, thanks to a real gas flame that runs 24/7.
