Near the town of Glovertown, Newfoundland, sits the skeletal remains of the Terra Nova Sulphite Company Pulp Mill, a massive industrial project that never actually made it into service.
Built in the early 20th century during Newfoundland’s pulp and paper boom, the mill was intended to process local timber into sulphite pulp for export. But before operations could begin, financial troubles and shifting markets doomed the project. The machinery was never fired up, leaving behind an enormous complex that looks frozen mid-dream.
Today, there’s not much to do beyond reading the informational boards and admiring the sheer scale of the failed venture. The size is fairly impressive. The mill is fenced off, though that hasn’t stopped a few curious explorers from a closer look.
