About

This sculpture, called “The Gossip,” is the most important hidden-in-plain-sight artwork on the grounds of the Texas Discovery Garden. It’s designed by whimsical Danish artist Bjorn Wiinblad, who, as an individual, is culturally significant but has also had a lasting and ongoing influence on Dallas design culture.

Wiinblad’s relationship with Dallas started in 1954 when he was commissioned by Neiman Marcus to create a poster for fashion week. Later, he would be involved in many other important Dallas cultural landmarks through interior design commissions by Trammel Crow, a successful real estate developer.

Wiinblad’s work in Dallas lasted for decades, including costume design for the Dallas Theatre Center and the opening of his own local store in the 80’s called Bjorn Wiinblads Hus.

While he’s no longer with us, many of Wiinblad’s works can still be found on display in and around Dallas if you know where to look! The Neiman Marcus Mermaid Bar is a great example.
