About

At the confluence of the Esopus Creek and the Hudson River in Saugerties, NY you will find the charming Saugerties Lighthouse. Built in 1869 it has guided ships away from the shallows and into the Esopus Creek for 157 years. Today the lighthouse is maintained by the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy and functions as a living museum and bed & breakfast.

Visitors can access the lighthouse via a half mile walk through the Ruth Reynolds Clunt Nature Preserve. It is recommended that you check the Saugerties Lighthouse Tide Chart before venturing out to the light house as high tides can submerge parts of the path. The walk is easy and provides beautiful views of the Hudson River and surrounding freshwater tidal wetlands in the Esopus Estuary. The nature trail is well maintained and open year round from sunrise to sunset. There are a few spots along the trail to walk out to the edge of the Hudson River which provide stunning views looking north and slightly east up the Hudson.

Docent led tours of the interior of the lighthouse are available in the summer on Sundays from 12:00pm-3:00pm for $10.00 (adult) & $5.00 (child). The lighthouse is also available as a bed & breakfast for overnight stays.
