About
Carroll Avenue is a picturesque neighborhood and one of Los Angeles's oldest streets, consisting of Victorian-era houses. The entire 1300 block of Carroll Avenue was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and the neighborhood boasts more than a dozen houses designated as Historic-Cultural Monuments.
One of those Victorian houses, located at 1345 Carroll Avenue, is notable for its brief but iconic appearance in the 1983 short film/music video Michael Jackson's Thriller, in which the house served as the setting for its final scenes. Commissioned by Michael Sanders, a local warehouse operator, the Victorian manor was built in Queen Anne style in 1887. It was later renovated into a duplex-type dwelling, and currently boasts 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 3,532 square feet of living space. It has been nicknamed the Sanders House but also (understandably) referred to as the Thriller House today.
Despite repeated renovations and restorations, this historic house has been in a half-dilapidated state for a while now, looking even more haunted-esque than it did in Thriller. It also appeared in the 1989 film Teen Witch and an episode of Charmed, whose main filming location stands in the same neighborhood.
