About
Treowen Manor is a chillingly beautiful gentry house built in the 1620s. From the Jacobean grand staircase (the earliest open well staircase in the country) you can access each of the house's 4 floors. Some notable rooms in the house include the Oak Room, which was featured in an episode of Doctor Who, the priest’s hole—a hidden spot for priests to shelter during raids after the Reformation, when Catholics were persecuted—and the long drawing room. Also of note are the “witches marks” in some of the uppermost bedrooms. These were thought to protect against witches and you can still see them today! As a venue for overnight guests, Treowen plays host to weddings, music events, and even an immersive theatre show that focuses on eldritch mystery and folk horror.Visiting Treowen, especially overnight, it’s easy to feel the thrill of mystery and adventure. Every corner turned feels like it could hold wonder or terror in equal measure and the weight of the house's history on the sloping farmland surrounding it serves as an ever-present tingle up your spine.
