About

This bronze sculpture of shoes that once belonged to famous entertainers from Malmö will catch your eyes while crossing the bridge Davidshallsbron.

In 2012 a competition was announced by the city of Malmö and a jury crowned Åsa Maria Bengtsson the winner. It was inaugurated in 2014 and finished in 2018. Today you can see 29 pairs of shoes from famous people from different time periods, such as Nils Poppe, Anita Ekberg, Kal P Dal, and Lasse Holmqvist.

In April 2021 the artwork received big criticism for being too simliar to the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial in Budapest, Hungary. Those iron shoes were put there to remember the victims who where shot dead by militiamen from the Arrow Cross Party in 1944-1945.

The similarities have been debated in Swedish media, but the city of Malmö has remained firm on keeping the sculpture where it is.
