Jana Ašenbrennerová

Joined Atlas Obscura in 2026

I’m a Czech photojournalist and visual anthropologist based in San Francisco. I document the human side of medicine across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States, particularly in places where geography shapes access to care. An Explorers Club Fellow and former National Geographic Student Expeditions leader, I’m drawn to places that receive little attention and to stories shaped by care, dedication, and community. Tea culture has been part of my life for more than two decades. In different parts of the world, I seek out the people and traditions that shape it, capturing and sharing the stories I find in a cup.
