At first, it was a definite no from me. Why would we travel all the way to Kauai to still have to wear masks and quarantine when we could do that in Boulder, where we lived at the time. We couldn't really "do" anything with other people without a mask, eating in restaurants wouldn't be happening, and on and on my list went.
However, people were starting to travel again and my kids and husband were all about taking the trip.....even though it would be different with the restrictions still in place. And so we went. And it was different, but in the best way. And it really surprised me. We packed picnics and discovered new beach spots we would have never explored otherwise (see me in the photo at one of them). We skipped the island tours we normally would have signed up for, and instead charted our own path based on recommendations from the hotel staff. And not participating in the busy schedule we normally set for ourselves left me feeling like a bit of a local, discovering things as the days unfolded.
Upon arriving home I felt transformed somehow, more relaxed and more curious to see how many other places I could experience that same way. Preferably in Covid free times.
