About
"Un Dimanche à Nice" meaning "A Sunday in Nice" is a work by the French artist, Stéphane Cipre. Although he was born in Paris in 1968, Stéphane Cipre is the youngest son of a family with roots in Nice. He moved to the French Riviera with his family at 4 years old.
The over-stuffed Fiat 500, complete with a piled-high roof rack and stickers in the rear windows, takes the people of Nice back to fond memories of family holidays. This fun sculpture of the iconic Fiat looks out over the Mediterranean Sea at the base of Castle Hill in Port Lympia.
The sculpture is made entirely of cast aluminum. While bronze is what most people would consider the traditional choice for cast metal sculptures, aluminum has gained popularity as an artistic material due to the fact that it is normally less expensive. Aluminum is also naturally resistant to corrosion, making it the perfect medium for outdoor installations, such as this.
