Located out on the archipelago of Stockholm, Artipelag is a decidedly non-traditional art museum built specifically to blend and partner with the surrounding landscape, providing an interactive and dynamic experience of both humanmade and natural beauty. Here you can find indoor and outdoor exhibits of manmade art as well as stunning views of the surrounding forest and Baggensfjärden bay.

The permanent exhibit Sculpture in Nature consists of walking paths that weave from the courtyard to the bayside footbridge and through 22 acres of surrounding woods and meadows, throughout which various sculptures from artists around the world are placed. The popular Solar Egg, originally located in far north Kiruna, Sweden, has found a new home here. From time to time the museum staff change the positions and residents of this sprawling sculpture garden to flow with the ever-changing nature it lives in.

The name of the museum is a pun on arkipelag, the Swedish word for “archipelago.” While it is not exactly located in the urban areas that house many other Stockholm museums, visitors can travel to Artipelag easily by bus, car, bike, or boat.
