About
From the late 90s to early 2000s, the Charles Village area of Baltimore had a house-painting contest inspired by San Francisco’s famous “Painted Ladies” to celebrate and reinvigorate the neighborhood’s architecture. While the contest has long been discontinued, many residents still keep up their colorful homes as a sign of community pride.
While there are brightly-painted houses all around the greater Charles Village area, the highest concentration can be found in the Abell neighborhood.
Know Before You Go
The ladies can be found on Calvert St, Guilford Ave, Abell Ave, and Barclay Street, mostly between 26th and 32nd streets. They are private residences, so be sure to admire from the sidewalk.
