About
At the heart of this museum is the Roberts engine, a 600-horsepower, two-cylinder horizontal cross-compound steam engine built in 1920 by William Roberts & Co of Nelson.
This engine once powered over 1,200 looms in the Bancroft Shed, the last steam-driven weaving shed constructed in Lancashire. Remarkably, the engine remains in its original setting and is operational, offering a rare glimpse into the past.
