This medieval castle sits atop a rocky hill and was around during the Christian Reconquest of the region. The castle is filled with history and presides over the small village of Numão. The view from the top is breathtaking and at night the castle is illuminated, so it can be viewed from the road or village.
The castle once belonged to Chamoa Rodriguez and was renovated over its lifetime by various Portuguese rulers. It's also believed that the castle once had 15 towers and was often visited by kings such as Afonso Henriques (the first king of Portugal) and D. Dinis.
