On Friday, September 8, 1944, a German V2 missile launched from the Netherlands landed at this site on Staveley Road in Chiswick. Three people were killed in the blast, and 19 more injured in the powerful explosion, which left behind a crater measuring some 30 feet across. It was the first of more than 500 V2 rockets that would strike London between September 1944 and March 1945.

Today, a small stone monument marks the site where the missile landed, and commemorates the lives that were lost in that and many other V2 missile attacks.
