About

Located just outside of a tiny Ontario town (population: approximately 300), this hidden gem has more theater seats than locals to fill them. The 550-seat complex contains five theaters and has drawn in locals from the surrounding area since 1979.

Owner Keith Stata has recreated the nostalgic theater experience, only amplified by the immense collection of movie and industry memorabilia and antiques displayed in the on-site museum. There is something to fascinate any and every person who comes through, from old-school cameras to old LIFE magazines.

Despite the entertainment and intrigue the theater and museum provide, the most fantastic part of this place might be the cats. Keith's property has become a sanctuary for approximately 58 abandoned domestic and feral cats, who are given food, cozy homes, and veterinary care by Keith and his team. Visitors can use the boxes in the lobby of the theatre to make donations of cat food, blankets, and litter.

Know Before You Go

The theater is cash only and opens 30 minutes before the first posted showing of the day. Also, Highlands operates seasonally, starting up in mid-spring and closing in mid-October. If you’re planning a visit, call ahead to see what’s playing and to make sure that the museum is open.
