About

Fort Warren was built to withstand an enormous invasion.

The entrance boasted a wire door that soldiers could pull down, trapping invaders in the entry tunnel called the sallyport. Small holes, called murder holes, were carved in the granite blocks that line the tunnel. The holes reach directly into the captain’s quarters, where officers could shoot at trapped imposters like fish in a barrel.
