About

In a surprisingly welcoming crypt beneath London's John Wesley Chapel is a collection of religious art and writing known as the Museum of Methodism.

This collection of works devoted to Methodism's influence on the world re-opened to the public in 2013 to reveal a renovated space with clean white walls, leaving the rustic wooden floors as the only reminder that one is standing in a burial site. While the exhibit is steeped in the history of the Methodist faith focusing on evangelist and founder of Methodism, John Wesley, the facility features such modern tools as audio-video accompaniment to many of the artifacts and tablet computers that visitors can use to read many of Wesley's original sermons.

In addition to the brand-new modern flash, the museum holds item such as Wesley's field bible and membership tickets to some of the formative Methodist meetings. It also holds Wesley's original pulpit with padded knee rest.

The Museum of Methodism is opening in phases with its current offerings being simply the first phase. A second portion of the collection is expected to be unveiled later in 2013.
