This entry remains in the Atlas as a record of its history, but it is no longer accessible to visitors.

My Brother's Bar-B-Q Cow

A cow in the road might subvert the flow of traffic but this one's above it all, quite literally.

About

There's no talking this cow off its ledge-- it has kept watch over the busy strip below since 1957, when the My Brother's Bar-B-Q restaurant first opened. At that time, the city was still called Girard and was considered rural. The restaurant remains owned and operated by its founding family, the McGuires. The story goes that the McGuire brothers, Jim and Frank, ran other restaurants in Los Angeles prior to opening the barbeque and respectively told delivery drivers, "I'm busy now. Go see my brother." When it came time to name My Brother's, the McGuire boys had a sense of humor and gave it its moniker as a tribute to their hectic L.A. restauranteur days.

Sadly, in February 2016, a sign in their window announced that My Brothers Bar-B-Q would be closing their doors for good.

Update January 2017: It's unfortunately closed down now. Even the cow sign is gone.
