The childhood home of Edward "Ned" Kelly and surrounding land were purchased by the Victorian Government in 2019. Heritage Victoria stabilized the modest, timber cottage that was in a poor state at the time of purchase.
Ned's father, John "Red" Kelly, built the home in 1859 using local bush timber and bluestone. The cottage originally was a small, three-roomed building with a verandah on three sides, it had a shingle roof and a chimney made from bluestone rocks. The cottage was extended by Red in the early 1860s, adding an extra room and a brick chimney. The building methods, construction, and details used reflected his Irish heritage
The Kelly family lived for about four years, before Red, and Ellen moved with their six children to Avenel when Ned was 10 years old.

The outside of the house can be viewed at anytime at 44 Kelly St, Beveridge. Other Kelly landmarks are located in the town.
