About

Japan is a very big country spanning the equivalent distance of Sweden to Italy, and with that span it also covers different climates and biomes.

In 1968 when the public opening of the imperial east gardens, a corner of this garden was set aside to receive a plant from each of the then 46 prefectures of Japan. In 1972 this was expanded with three trees from Okinawa after the territory was returned to Japan by the USA.

The collection houses 36 different tree species (yes there are doubles), ranging from wintry pines to tropical palms. Each tree has a sign explaining it's origin and species.
