About
Shin-Kobe Station, the bullet train gateway to the city of Kobe, is located at the foot of Mount Rokko, and despite its urbanized surroundings, you can take a very short walk from here to see some stunning nature.
Located less than 10 minutes away is the “female waterfall” of the Nunobiki Falls, widely considered one of the Three Most Divine Waterfalls of Japan. A well-known scenic site since antiquity, the waterfall appears in many historical stories and haiku poems, such as the 10th-century Tales of Ise.
Further on, another 10 minutes or less away from the “female waterfall” is the larger “male waterfall,” the highlight of the hike. It drops from a majestic height of 43 meters (141 feet), splashing into a 6.6-meter-deep pool below. The sound of the rushing water and the tranquility of the mountains are sure to make you forget how close you are to the bustle of the city.
