About
The Palacio del Infante Don Luis, located in Boadilla del Monte, is a neoclassical architectural gem built in the 18th century. Designed by architect Ventura Rodríguez for Infante Don Luis de Borbón, the palace holds significant artistic value due to its classical symmetry, clean lines, and harmonious proportions typical of the neoclassical style. Its grandeur reflects the influence of Italian Renaissance palaces, with features like a central courtyard, elegant staircases, and spacious salons.
The palace integrates architecture with nature, evident in its formal gardens and vistas, blending landscape design with its classical architecture. The building also showcases important decorative arts with frescoes, tapestries, and other interior details reflecting the tastes of Spanish nobility during the Enlightenment period.
Today, it stands as a key cultural and historical landmark, representative of Spain’s Bourbon era and the artistic transition from baroque to neoclassical aesthetics.
Don Luis de Borbón was the son of Philip V of Spain. He was born in 1727 and lived a life characterised by his royal position and controversies. He was known for his eccentricity and rebellion, and had disputes with his royal family and was banished several times. His interest in art led him to support artists and amass an important art collection. He was also a patron of music and supported composers such as Luigi Boccherini. He died in 1785, leaving behind a cultural legacy and a controversial reputation in the Spanish monarchy.
