The First Evangelical Presbyterian Church – East Liverpool, Ohio - Atlas Obscura

The First Evangelical Presbyterian Church

A storybook church made from a mesmerizing medley of multi-colored stones.

Though this 1907 church sits atop a large hill in East Liverpool, Ohio, it looks better suited for a fantasy movie. It features two large entrances and multiple stained glass windows, which complement the elaborate exterior stone masonry.

The building’s exterior sandstones are a symphony of colors, ranging from green, yellow, to grayish blue. And, all of the building’s trim is done with red sandstones. The roof appears to be done with Spanish tiles, which are uncommon in this part of the United States.

Sunlight seems to bring the stones to life as it dances across the array of colors. You can visit the outside of the church at any time to see how the light affects the different hues.

The building is home to an active congregation. They even have a Facebook page that’s full of images and information about the church.
