Along the side of the highway in rural south Gippsland stands the Toora Dog Tree. Keen-eyed explorers will spot it as they drive past, and it is well worth a brief stop. The creations on the tree gradually expand, with evidence of more to come. The old cypress tree sits outside a lone house, where the owners have taken it upon themselves to carve their beloved dogs into the tree.

The dogs were carved using a chainsaw and beautifully painted to represent their living companions. Dogs represented on the tree include Birk the Scottish deerhound, Bruno the Tenterfield terrier, and Tank the husky. All the dogs are actually rescued dogs.

Another tree stump lies across the drive from the dog tree, and the owners are currently considering what their next work of art will be.

Know Before You Go

There is a lay-by across the road from the tree that you can park. Drive slow when approaching the tree or you may shoot past it.
