World’s Only Art Nouveau McDonald’s

Situated near the Serbian-Hungarian border, the entire town of Subotica is a living Art Nouveau museum. After the dazzling Leovic Palace was unveiled in 1893, the Moorish architectural style swept through the city. And while one might expect such lavish interior and exterior ornamentation on buildings like the Synagogue and Subotica Savings Bank, Subotica's visual flair extends to a more surprising spot: the local McDonald's.

On the ground floor of Subotica's stunning City Hall, visitors can order a Big Mac while soaking in some truly inspiring surroundings. Designed in 1912 by Marcel Komor and Dezso Jakab, this public building is a masterful example of the Hungarian Art Nouveau style, complete with a handsome red exterior, stained glass, and ornate wrought iron. When McDonald's moved in, they kept the original furnishings and tailored the fast-food outlet to match.
