Mission

Scavenge 150-year-old antique bottles on a hidden beach once littered with horse bones.

Dead Horse Bay

MISSION BRIEF

Tread carefully over the green-tinted broken bottles and trash, and begin your scavenger hunt.

Along with hundreds of thousands of antique bottles, look for the one-inch chunks of horse bone that still cover the beach.

Named Dead Horse Bay for the 1800's horse-rendering plants in the area, the beach was was infamous for its awful odor. When the automobile replaced horses, Dead Horse Bay became a landfill. In the 1930s the huge trash heap was capped, only to burst in the 1950s. It continues to leak garbage onto the beach to this day.

Come during low tide and you can spend hours scouring the beach for treasures and horrors from another era.
