Located in Golden, just west of Denver, Colorado USA, the museum has an operating track offering train rides, a working roundhouse and turntable, railroad library, exhibition galleries, outdoor pavilion, a huge indoor HO model railroad, and a outdoor picnic and kids play area.
The museum is a 2 mile walk or bike ride from Golden's Vancouver Park along a bike and walking path that also passes by the Coors bottling plant and along Clear Creek.

Train rides are offered on Saturday from mid-January through October. From mid-May through mid-August, train rides are also offered each week Thursday-Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with half-hourly departures. Train rides cost a fee in addition to your Museum Admission: $4 adults and seniors, $2 ages 2-17, under 2 is free on a ticketed adult’s lap. Museum members ride free.
