About

The highest point in Delaware may be under a mobile home nearby, but highpointers and peakbaggers recognize Ebright Azimuth as the highest benchmark at 447.85 feet above sea level, near the town of Barkley.

Once covered by a sidewalk, the United States Geologicial Survey benchmark is now exposed and is a target for tourists. Since the actual highest elevation is located nearby on private property, the benchmark stands in for those wishing to "get high" in all fifty states. The actual Delaware historical marker is near the site, and polite visitors may even meet Doreen Kupchick, who lives across the street and keeps a log book. It was through her efforts that the benchmark was brought to light.

For anyone looking to visit the site, the unofficial authority on such subjects, The Highpointers Club, asks that visitors respect the property rights of Ms. Kupchick and other residents of the area. When visiting, park out of the way and keep your visit at the benchmark, and not all over Kupchick's private property.

The benchmark is near a section of cut-out sidewalk near the intersection of Ebright Road and Ramblewood Drive. This is a suburban neighborhood so please respect property rights.
