About
Ekebol's Cave is a manmade cave constructed in the late 1800s by the owner of the Baldersnäs mansion, located nearby. It was originally built as a party venue, and many wild Midsummer celebrations took place here.
In 1868, King Karl XV visited Baldersnäs to inaugurate the Dalsland Canal. During his visit, he hosted a grand party in the cave.
In 1956 the cave was bought and started serving as a memorial site for those who left the region and the country for America during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, there are two large altars—one on each side—where visitors can pay their respects.
